MEET JASON

Over the past forty years of teaching, Jason Shulman has worked to reconcile the deistic or relative paths of liberation with the consciousness of Buddhism and other non-theistic paths to create a truly nondual path of healing, one that does not exclude any aspect of reality.

His work emphasizes the healing of the personal ego and its rightful place in any path that seeks liberation from ignorance and the awakening of compassion. It also seeks to bring the human world, with its imperfections, into alignment with the realization of transcendent awareness. In this way we develop a conscious awakening to the sacredness of every sentient being and every time-bound moment.

 ABOUT THE FOUNDATION FOR NONDUALITY

The Foundation for Nonduality was organized as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 in 2014 in the State of New Jersey. It is dedicated to making the principles of nondual thinking and practice as articulated by Jason Shulman available to the greater public for the purpose of transforming the consciousness of individuals in order to help alleviate suffering in the world.

Our hope is to educate and inspire individuals, professionals, families, groups, organizations, businesses, and those working in the area of conflict resolution. These principles and their practical application focus on the unitive connection between personal and transcendent consciousness as the foundational basis for change and healing. Jason Shulman sees the study of nonduality, especially in its practical applications in everyday living, as part of the healing of the human soul. The aim is to live our lives as both healing and healthy individuals who are aware of and connected to the entire web of being, including the totality of who we are. Living the totality of our being means including all of our human parts in our awareness, from our great courage and longing to connect, to our many imperfections that work against these aims. Awakening and enlightening arise from the vast and undefended inclusion of all of who we are.

The Foundation offers many ways to come into contact with Jason Shulman’s teachings, from video and audio explorations of the various modalities of the work he has created to online community gatherings with senior teaching members of the community and discussion groups with community members. This community is open to all and does not discriminate based on sexual orientation, gender, race or religion. Jason Shulman’s teachings are based on kindness toward the self and others, and the work of the Foundation is to actualize this kindness in everyday life.

When you make a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation for Nonduality, you are giving us the means to extend the reach of our educational and inspirational programs and events. We are grateful for your help and support.

WHAT IS NONDUALITY?

All the world’s great spiritual traditions tell us that “the world is one.” Though the language changes from tradition to tradition, with deistic paths saying “God is One,” while other paths talk about “the unitive state” or “awakening,” or “enlightenment,” humankind has always had a sense that there is an underlying seamlessness between ourselves and the universe, despite the fact that we so often feel alienated from ourselves and the world.

Nonduality, rather than being only a mystical experience, is simply a good way to describe the way things actually are. Seen this way, reality includes both wholeness and separateness; they are not at odds but dependent upon each other for existence. Here is an example: in many approaches to nonduality, the personal ego is seen as the source of many of our troubles. And the antidote? To eliminate or subdue the ego. Our approach is different: since the universe constantly creates individual egos or beings that have a sense of a separate self, there must be some way in which this ego can reveal itself to be the principal actor in our search for freedom. Our approach is to heal this ego so that it can become a reliable vehicle for the beauty of being a human being.

This work is important because by having intimacy with all of who we are—including our imperfections—we become whole human beings whose innate nature is to love and foster life. We begin to see how we can reduce our own suffering and the suffering of others, how we can live lives of fulfillment and service, and how, by being completely human, we learn to actualize our true nature.
